AutoMax 550C Cross-Cut Shredder

The Fellowes AutoMax 550C is a commercial-grade cross-cut shredder designed for offices that need to destroy large volumes of paper without constant supervision. It handles staples and paper clips automatically, so staff can load a stack and return to other tasks. The P-4 security level produces 0.156" x 1.500" particles suitable for confidential documents. Continuous-duty operation means it keeps running until the job is finished.

22-Gallon Bin and AccuFeed System

The patented AccuFeed drawer accepts up to 550 sheets at once and feeds them into the cutters without manual alignment. Auto Reverse detects a jam, stops the motor and backs the paper out to clear the blockage. A 22-gallon removable bin holds the shredded waste, reducing the frequency of emptying cycles. The 9.00-inch throat accommodates standard letter and A4 pages as well as CDs, DVDs and credit cards.

550-Sheet Automatic Capacity

In automatic mode the shredder processes a full 550-sheet stack in a single session, while manual feed handles up to 14 sheets at a time for smaller ad-hoc jobs. The continuous motor supports extended runs without cool-down pauses, making it practical for end-of-day bulk clearing. It is not suited for environments that need micro-cut particles or higher security ratings than P-4. Users requiring a smaller footprint or occasional home use will find the capacity excessive.

Questions about this item

How often will the cross-cut blades on the AutoMax 550C need oiling to maintain cutting performance?

Oil the blades each time you empty the 22-gallon bin or after a long shredding session; use only Fellowes-approved shredder oil applied across the 9-inch entry width.

What stops the AutoMax 550C first during a non-stop shredding run — heat, bin capacity or jam risk?

The 22-gallon bin fills before the continuous-duty motor overheats; Auto Reverse clears jams automatically so capacity is the practical limit.

How loud is the AutoMax 550C when it runs all day in a shared office?

The continuous-duty motor operates at a low office-friendly sound level while the 22-gallon bin reduces emptying trips that add extra noise.
