Dual-connector hub for USB-C and USB-A hosts

The GE ODK4R0 adds a Gigabit Ethernet port and three USB 3.0 Type-A sockets through a single adapter that plugs into either a USB-C or USB-A port on the host. It is aimed at laptop, tablet and smartphone users who need a wired network link and extra USB-A connections at the same time. The aluminium enclosure helps dissipate heat during sustained transfers. No HDMI output or Power Delivery charging is provided.

1 Gbps Ethernet needs CAT6 cable

The RJ45 port delivers up to 1000 Mbps when the host network, the cable and the device all support that rate; it falls back to 10/100 Mbps on older wiring. A secure connection and CAT6 or better cabling are required to reach the top speed. The USB-C port on the host must run USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Thunderbolt 3 for the adapter to function.

Three USB-A ports share one 5 Gbps upstream link

All three Type-A sockets operate concurrently but divide the single 5 Gbps bandwidth from the host connection. Connecting a high-throughput external drive can consume most of that bandwidth and slow keyboards, mice or flash drives on the other ports. The hub is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 peripherals. Wireless 2.4 GHz devices may see interference; moving the receiver away from the hub improves reliability.
