Adds four DB9 serial ports via USB 2.0 with FTDI chip, 15 KV surge protection and 921.600 bps maximum baud rate
The GearMo USA-FTDI4X-NUT adds four DB9 serial ports to a desktop, laptop or other mobile device through a single USB Type A connection. It uses an FTDI chipset and requires no external power supply, drawing what it needs from the host port. The three-foot cable keeps the adapter close to the computer while the DB9 connectors face the equipment being controlled.
Engineers maintaining PLCs, CNC machines, scientific instruments or older networking gear will appreciate the plug-and-play COM-port enumeration on Windows 7 through 11, Linux and Mac OS 10.X. The 15 kV ESD and surge protection helps shield both the adapter and connected hardware. Users who need only a single serial port or who require galvanic isolation should consider a different form factor.
Each channel provides a dual 16-byte hardware buffer for upstream and downstream traffic, giving comfortable headroom for typical industrial protocols at standard baud rates. Throughput drops when all four ports run simultaneously at the maximum 921.600 bps setting because the shared USB 2.0 link becomes the bottleneck. The three-foot cable length also limits placement in larger cabinets.
