Adds a gigabit RJ45 port to laptops, tablets or Nintendo Switch via USB 3.0 for wired 10/100/1000 Mbps networking
This compact adapter adds a wired RJ45 network port to devices that lack one, such as ultrabooks, tablets and the Nintendo Switch. It connects through a standard USB 3.0 Type-A socket and is immediately recognised by Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS without extra drivers. The link and activity LEDs give instant visual confirmation of a live connection.
The unit draws all its power from the USB port, so no external supply is needed. With no moving parts it runs silently and stays cool during sustained 1000 Mbps transfers. Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) reduces idle power draw, and the adapter falls back to USB 2.0 or 1.1 speeds when plugged into older ports.
The adapter protects a built-in Ethernet port from wear or replaces a damaged one without opening the chassis. It supports IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab standards for broad switch and router compatibility. Buyers who need multi-gigabit speeds beyond 1 Gbps or who rely on Windows RT and Android devices will not be served by this model.

Plug the USB 3.0 male Type-A connector into a free USB 3.0 port, then connect an RJ45 Ethernet cable to the female port. The step people miss is using a USB 2.0 port, which caps the link at 100 Mbps instead of 1000 Mbps.
No scheduled maintenance is required. The USB-powered design has no internal battery or moving parts. If the RJ45 jack or USB plug wears out from repeated insertion, replace the whole adapter.
The USB 3.0 bus ceiling of 5 Gbps is the first bottleneck. The Gigabit Ethernet side runs at 1000 Mbps, so continuous traffic saturates the USB link before the network port reaches its maximum.
