Ultra-slim portable storage

The GoHardDrive HD250U3 is a 120GB 2.5-inch external hard drive built for users who need compact extra capacity on the move. Its aluminium chassis and bus-powered USB 3.0 connection make it suited to laptop owners, console gamers and anyone expanding storage without carrying a power brick.

Compatibility checklist

Verify that your device offers a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port and can supply enough bus power for a 2.5-inch mechanical drive. The unit arrives formatted for Windows NTFS so Mac, PS4 or Xbox One users must reformat before first use.

Thermals and acoustics

The 5400 RPM mechanism runs inside the metal enclosure which acts as a passive heatsink during normal file transfers. Expect audible seek noise typical of a slim spinning drive but no fan whine because the design is entirely fanless. Power draw stays within standard USB 3.0 bus limits.

Questions about this item

Does the GoHardDrive HD250U3 120GB include a cable or do I need to buy one separately?

The drive is USB bus powered and connects directly to a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port, so no extra power adapter is required.

Which capacity should I choose if I only see the 120GB version listed?

The only capacity offered for this model is 120GB with an 8MB cache and 5400 RPM spindle speed.

What does the 5.0 Gbps USB 3.0 headline speed mean for real file transfers on my laptop?

The 5.0 Gbps interface sets the theoretical ceiling; actual throughput will be limited by the 5400 RPM mechanism and the 8MB cache in everyday use.
