Ultra-slim 80 GB portable drive

The GoHardDrive HD250U3 is an 80 GB 2.5 inch external hard drive housed in a durable aluminium chassis. It connects through a USB 3.0 interface and draws power directly from the host port. The drive arrives formatted for Windows NTFS and works with Mac OS after reformatting.

Bus-powered USB 3.0 storage expansion

A single USB 3.0 cable supplies both data and power, so no separate AC adapter is needed. The drive plugs into USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 ports on laptops, desktops, MacBooks, PS4 or Xbox One consoles. Its slim 2.5 inch form factor leaves desk space free while adding 80 GB of extra capacity.

5400 RPM mechanics in an aluminium shell

The internal disk spins at 5400 RPM with an 8 MB cache, delivering typical mechanical-drive acoustics and heat output. The aluminium chassis acts as a passive heatsink, keeping surface temperatures moderate during sustained transfers. Power consumption stays within standard USB bus limits.

Questions about this item

Will the 5400 RPM drive keep up during long file transfers?

The 5400 RPM mechanism and 8 MB cache deliver steady throughput for typical backups, but sustained writes will level off at the drive's native speed rather than the 5.0 Gbps USB 3.0 ceiling.

How hot or loud does the aluminum case get after hours of use?

The slim aluminum chassis acts as a passive heatsink; with no fan the drive stays silent, and the metal body warms to the touch but remains within normal operating temperature for a 2.5" USB-powered unit.

Does my laptop need a USB 3.0 port or will USB 2.0 work?

It works on USB 2.0 ports at reduced speed, but a USB 3.0 port is required to reach the 5.0 Gbps interface rate; no external power adapter is needed either way.
