Handsider HSR88 Pocket Radio

The Handsider HSR88 is a battery-operated pocket radio covering FM, AM and shortwave bands. It includes a built-in LED flashlight and a headphone jack for private listening. A back clip and wrist lanyard make it easy to carry during walks or emergencies. The unit runs on two AA batteries which are not supplied.

Suitable For Simple Portable Listening

This radio suits users who want a lightweight device for basic broadcast reception and a handy light. The 360-degree adjustable antenna helps pull in stations across the 87-108 MHz FM, 522-1620 kHz AM and 5.9-18 MHz shortwave ranges. It is not for listeners who need digital tuning, preset memory or rechargeable power. Buyers wanting weather-alert functions or Bluetooth streaming should look elsewhere.

Three-Band Analogue Tuning Decides Fit

The single specification that decides suitability is the analogue three-band tuner covering FM, AM and shortwave. Reception quality varies by location; shortwave in particular may need an open environment and patience. If your use case demands reliable shortwave access indoors, this analogue design may fall short. For casual or emergency backup listening the band coverage is the key factor.

Questions about this item

How often will the two AA batteries need replacing with daily listening?

The radio runs on two AA batteries which are not included; battery life depends on volume level and daily usage time.

Will the 3-watt speaker distort at maximum volume during long sessions?

The upgraded 3W speaker is designed for clearer sound at higher volume, but extended maximum-volume use may increase distortion.

Does the unit become warm or the LED flashlight drain the batteries quickly when left on all day?

The LED flashlight draws additional power so continuous all-day use will reduce battery runtime; the radio body stays cool during normal operation.
