Fire Safety Interface

The Harman dbx ZC-FIRE ZonePRO is a fire safety interface designed for integration with ZonePRO audio systems. It provides certified safety compliance for commercial installations requiring emergency signalling. Installers connect it via dual RJ-45 ports to link zone controllers. The unit meets UL 60065, IEC 60065 and EN 55013 safety agency certifications.

Wiring Distance Limits

Series wiring supports three zone controllers up to 600 ft and six zone controllers up to 300 ft of cable run. Parallel wiring using the ZC-BOB accessory extends the maximum cable length to 1000 ft for up to six zone controllers. Specified cabling requires CAT5 or CAT5E with 28.6 Ohm/M nominal DCR and VW-1 rating or higher. These limits define the physical reach of the safety network.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under continuous emergency operation the interface maintains certified safety compliance across all connected zone controllers. The wiring topology chosen determines the maximum number of controllers and total cable distance supported without signal degradation. Parallel wiring with ZC-BOB delivers the longest sustained runs at 1000 ft. The safety agency certifications remain valid during prolonged activation events.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the ZC-FIRE interface using the RJ-45 ports and what wiring mistake should I avoid?

Connect up to six Zone Controllers using the two RJ-45 ports in series or parallel. In series wiring, cable length drops to 300 ft with six controllers versus 600 ft with three. Use the ZC-BOB for parallel runs up to 1000 ft.

What cabling and certification standards must I meet for the ZC-FIRE installation?

Use CAT5 or CAT5E cable with 28.6 Ohm/1000ft nominal DCR and VW-1 rating or higher. The unit carries UL 60065, IEC 60065, EN 55013 and E60065 safety certifications.

How many Zone Controllers can I daisy-chain before signal distance becomes the limiting factor?

In series wiring, three controllers allow 600 ft while six controllers reduce maximum length to 300 ft. Parallel wiring with the ZC-BOB supports six controllers at 1000 ft.
