HP 12.7mm Slim DVD Burner SATA

The HP 652235-B21 is a 12.7mm slimline optical drive with a black tray-load design. It connects via SATA and fits the slim form factor required by compatible server chassis. This new drive reads and writes CD and DVD media for data backup or media playback. It is built for integration into supported HP ProLiant systems.

Upgrading from an older optical drive

This drive replaces a failed or missing slim DVD burner in HP ProLiant DL380 and DL385 series servers. The jump is worth it when the existing unit no longer reads dual-layer 8.5GB discs or DVD-RAM media. SATA connectivity ensures broad compatibility with the server backplane. It restores the ability to install software or archive data from physical media.

Check slim bay and SATA availability

Verify the server has a free 12.7mm slim drive bay and an internal SATA port for the connection. The tray-load mechanism requires physical access to the front panel opening. Confirm the chassis supports the slim form factor before ordering. No separate driver installation is typically required for basic read and write functions.

Questions about this item

Will the 12.7 mm slim form factor fit the optical bay of my HP ProLiant DL380 or DL385 server?

Yes, the 12.7 mm slim chassis is built for the standard slimline bay used in the HP ProLiant DL380 and DL385 server series.

How do I connect the SATA data and power cables without bending the slim connector?

Route the SATA data and power cables straight into the rear ports before sliding the drive into the bay; forcing the drive in with cables already attached often bends the fragile slimline connectors.

When should I replace the drive if it stops reading dual-layer 8.5 GB DVD media?

Replace the unit when it consistently fails to read or write verified 8.5 GB dual-layer discs after you have cleaned the lens and tried multiple known-good media batches.
