A 1 Gbps SFP transceiver with an RJ-45 port for 100 m Cat5e copper links
The HP Aruba J8177D is a 1G SFP transceiver with an RJ-45 connector for copper networking. It plugs into an SFP slot on a compatible switch or router to add a Gigabit Ethernet port over twisted-pair cable.
The module operates within standard SFP power limits and produces no audible noise because it has no moving parts. Heat output is low enough for dense switch chassis without extra airflow requirements.
The transceiver accepts Category 5e cable up to 100 metres and fits the standard SFP form factor at 0.5" high, 2.7" wide and 0.6" deep. It adds roughly 0.10 lb and leaves adjacent slots free for other modules.

Slide the module in until the latch clicks, then secure the bale clasp; the step often missed is locking the bale clasp after insertion.
The transceiver has no moving parts; only the Category 5e patch cord may need replacement if the clip breaks or the cable is damaged.
The 100 metre reach defined by the Category 5e standard is the first limit; the link will drop if the cable exceeds that length.
