HP EliteBook 840 G4 business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.6 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD for storage. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 drives a 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and the chassis includes USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Type-C, VGA, DisplayPort and Gigabit Ethernet connections.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who need a compact laptop with a full-size VGA port, DisplayPort and RJ-45 Ethernet for docking or presenting on older projectors and wired networks. The SIM card slot supports mobile broadband for travel. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or discrete graphics for intensive visual work should look at other models. The 8 GB of soldered memory cannot be upgraded, so users requiring more RAM will need a different platform.

1366 x 768 non-touch display resolution

The single specification that decides fit is the 1366 x 768 non-touch display. Text and images appear at this native resolution across the 14.0-inch panel, which affects clarity for documents, spreadsheets and video calls. If your workflow demands sharper visuals, multi-touch input or a taller aspect ratio, this screen will not meet those requirements.

Questions about this item

Does the Core i5-7300U run hot or loud when the EliteBook 840 G4 is under load all day?

The dual-core 2.6 GHz processor with 3 MB cache is designed for thin-and-light chassis, so fan noise stays low and surface temperatures remain comfortable during typical office workloads.

What cables or docks do I already need to drive an external monitor from the DisplayPort or VGA on this 840 G4?

A standard DisplayPort cable or a VGA cable connects directly to the full-size ports; no adapter or dock is required for a single external display.

Will my existing DDR3 SO-DIMMs work if I want to expand the 8 GB already installed?

The system uses DDR3 memory, so compatible DDR3 SO-DIMMs can be added to the open slot up to the platform maximum.
