Compact business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 combines a 14.0" FHD non-touch display with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed and includes a front-facing webcam for video calls.

Fanless idle operation with modest power draw

Integrated graphics and a 15 W class CPU keep heat output low during typical office workloads. The silver aluminium chassis dissipates warmth without loud fan noise under light use. Dual-band wireless with Bluetooth 4.1 maintains connectivity while preserving battery life.

128 GB PCIe M.2 SSD limits local storage capacity

The single 128 GB drive fills quickly with large media libraries or virtual machines. Buyers who need more onboard space should consider models offering 256 GB, 512 GB or larger SSD options. Memory is fixed at 32 GB DDR4 via two 16 GB modules.

Questions about this item

How do I install a second M.2 SSD in the EliteBook 840 G5 and what step do people miss?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the drive at 30 degrees into the free M.2 slot, secure it with the single screw, then enable the new volume in Windows Disk Management — the step most skip.

Which component in this EliteBook 840 G5 will need replacement first under heavy daily use?

The 128 GB PCIe M.2 SSD will hit its write-endurance limit before the 32 GB DDR4 memory or the i5-8350U processor show wear.

What thermal limit appears first on the i5-8350U during sustained loads?

The quad-core i5-8350U drops from its 3.6 GHz turbo to the 1.7 GHz base clock once the cooling solution saturates.
