Target user

This 14-inch EliteBook 840 G5 is a mainstream business notebook built for professionals who need a portable, managed Windows 10 Pro device with generous memory for multitasking. Its silver aluminium chassis houses a quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U processor and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, making it suited to office workloads, video calls and light content creation on the move.

Deciding specification

The single specification that determines fit is the 128 GB PCIe M.2 SSD, which offers fast boot and application launch but limited capacity for large local data sets. Buyers who need more storage for media libraries, virtual machines or offline project files should look elsewhere, as the drive cannot be supplemented by a second internal bay.

Capacity and headroom

The 32 GB DDR4 configuration (16 GB x 2) provides ample headroom for dozens of browser tabs, simultaneous Office apps and background management agents without paging. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles external displays via USB-C DisplayPort and everyday visual tasks, but it runs out of steam for 3D rendering, CAD or modern gaming workloads.

Questions about this item

What does the i5-8350U’s 1.7 GHz base and 3.6 GHz boost mean for everyday workloads?

The quad-core processor runs at 1.7 GHz under light load and can reach 3.6 GHz on up to four cores with Turbo Boost, giving responsive performance for office apps and multitasking.

What do the USB 3.0 and USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort support actually deliver?

Two USB 3.0 ports provide 5 Gbps data transfer, while the USB Type-C ports add the same speed plus DisplayPort video output for external monitors.

Will the 14.0" FHD panel and 128 GB M.2 SSD fit a standard 2.5" drive bay if I want to add storage later?

The laptop uses an M.2 slot for the 128 GB SSD and has no 2.5" bay, so additional storage must be another M.2 drive.
