Business-ready 14" laptop with 32GB DDR4

This HP EliteBook 840 G5 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 128GB PCIe M.2 SSD. It runs Windows 11 Pro on a 14.0" non-touch FHD panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Passive-office thermals with 15W CPU

The 15W U-series chip keeps heat and fan noise low during typical productivity workloads such as document editing, video calls and web browsing. Integrated graphics share system memory, avoiding a discrete GPU’s extra power draw. Bluetooth 4.1 and dual-band wireless add minimal load.

128GB boot drive limits local storage

The single 128GB SSD holds the OS and core applications but fills quickly with large media libraries, project archives or virtual machines. Buyers who need more onboard capacity should plan for external drives or cloud storage. No larger drive is included in this configuration.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 16 GB DDR4 modules in the EliteBook 840 G5, and which step do people often get wrong?

Remove the bottom cover, slot each 16 GB DDR4 stick into the two SO-DIMM sockets until the side clips click, then replace the cover. The step people miss is pressing both ends evenly so the clips engage on both sides.

What maintenance or replacement will the 128 GB SSD need later?

The 128 GB SSD has no moving parts, so no scheduled maintenance is required. Replacement is only needed if the drive fails or you need more capacity; swap it with another M.2 SATA or NVME unit.

What limit appears first on the i7-8650U and Intel UHD Graphics 620 during sustained workloads?

The 15 W thermal envelope of the i7-8650U is reached first, causing the processor to drop from its 4.2 GHz boost toward the 1.9 GHz base clock, which also caps the integrated UHD Graphics 620 performance.
