Business notebook for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14.0" laptop built for daily office work and travel. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8665U quad-core processor with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD LED display provides clear visuals for documents and video calls.

Sustained performance with 15W processor

The 1.90 GHz quad-core CPU operates within a 15W envelope, so clock speeds settle under continuous load rather than spiking briefly. Intel UHD Graphics uses shared system memory, making the system suitable for productivity apps and light creative tasks but not for heavy 3D rendering or compute workloads. The 8MB cache helps keep frequent data close to the cores during long sessions.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

A single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet handle peripherals without adding significant heat. The fan stays quiet during typical office use such as browsing, email and document editing. The included charger supplies power for the 15W processor and charges the battery while the system runs.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the i7-8665U get when the EliteBook 840 G6 runs at its 15 W rating all day?

The quad-core i7-8665U is rated at 15 W, so the cooling system only needs to dissipate a modest amount of heat; fan noise stays low during typical office workloads and the chassis remains comfortable to touch.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the single Thunderbolt 3 port and the HDMI output on this EliteBook 840 G6?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI cable for the full-size HDMI port; both ports are ready to use with existing accessories.

Will my older USB 3.1 Gen 1 peripherals work with the two Type-A ports on this 840 G6 without adapters?

Yes, the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports are backward compatible, so existing USB-A mice, keyboards, drives and hubs plug in directly.
