Business notebook with Thunderbolt 3

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14.0-inch Windows 10 Pro laptop powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7-8665U processor at 1.9 GHz. It ships with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. A single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI, Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and an integrated webcam complete the connectivity set. The non-touch FHD panel uses LED backlighting at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy OS

This unit fits buyers who specifically require Windows 10 Pro on a lightweight business chassis with Thunderbolt 3 docking capability. The 32 GB RAM allocation supports heavy multitasking and virtual machines. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a newer Windows licence, a larger SSD or a discrete GPU should look at something else. The Grade B cosmetic rating means visible scratches or surface marks are present.

Single Thunderbolt 3 port decides dock flexibility

The lone Thunderbolt 3 USB-C connection is the only interface that can drive high-speed docks, external GPUs or multiple 4K displays from one cable. If your workflow depends on two Thunderbolt links or on USB4 speeds, this chassis cannot meet that need. All other I/O runs over standard USB 3.1 Gen 1 and HDMI, which are adequate for everyday peripherals but not for high-bandwidth daisy-chaining.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256GB NVMe or add a larger drive later?

The 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD handles the OS and core apps well; a second M.2 slot is not confirmed, so plan external storage if you need more space.

What does the 1.90 GHz base clock mean for everyday workloads?

The quad-core i7-8665U runs at 1.90 GHz base with 15W TDP, boosting higher for short bursts — fine for office suites, browser tabs and light content work.

What can the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port actually drive?

One Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port supports 40 Gb/s data, DisplayPort alt-mode for external monitors and power delivery for docks or charging.
