Ready for office deployment

The HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF arrives as a complete business desktop kit with a 24 inch IPS monitor, USB keyboard and mouse. An 8th generation Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor runs at 3.0 GHz with a 4.10 GHz maximum turbo. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 2.5 inch 512 GB SSD provide the baseline configuration, while Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed. A DVD-ROM drive and a USB wireless dongle with 5 GHz capability round out the package.

Upgrading from older SFF fleets

This unit replaces ageing small-form-factor desktops that still rely on hard drives or fourth- to sixth-generation Core processors. The jump is worthwhile when users need faster boot times, quicker application launches and native Windows 10 Pro support without a separate licence purchase. Buyers who require more than 8 GB of RAM or additional internal storage bays should look elsewhere, as the supplied configuration ships with a single memory module and one 2.5 inch drive bay populated.

Simple desk-side setup

Connect the monitor via its included cable, plug in the keyboard, mouse and wireless dongle, then press the power button. The small-form-factor chassis uses standard 240-pin DDR4 slots, so memory expansion is straightforward if a second module is sourced separately. The most common issue is forgetting to seat the wireless dongle firmly in a rear USB port, which can cause intermittent Bluetooth or 5 GHz connectivity until it is pushed fully home.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" 512 GB SSD fit in the SFF case drive bay?

The SFF chassis accepts a 2.5" drive, so the supplied 512 GB SSD mounts directly in the internal bay.

How is the wireless dongle installed and what step is often missed?

Plug the USB Wi-Fi/BT dongle into a free USB port; the step people miss is allowing Windows 10 Pro to install the driver before expecting a 5 GHz connection.

What memory upgrades does the 8 GB DDR4 configuration support later?

The board uses DDR4 UDIMM slots and supports up to 32 GB total, so you can add or replace modules to reach that limit.
