Expansion module for 5400R zl2

This HPE Aruba J9987A module adds twenty copper ports and four fibre uplinks to a compatible 5400R zl2 chassis. It is designed for network teams that need PoE+ power and 10Gbe aggregation in a single slot.

Copper ports deliver 10.

The four SFP+ cages accept 1G or 10G transceivers for uplink flexibility. MACsec encryption is supported on the SFP+ ports at line rate. No other speeds or media types are provided by this module.

Verify the chassis is a 5400R zl2

The module occupies one zl2 slot and draws PoE+ budget from the chassis power supplies. Buyers who need more than twenty copper ports or who lack a 5400R zl2 chassis cannot use this module.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 24-port module or a smaller version for my 5400R zl2 switch?

The module provides 24 ports total: 20 ports of 10/100/1000 PoE+ and 4 ports of 1G/10GbE SFP+ MACsec v3 zl2, giving both copper and fibre uplinks in one slot.

What does the 10Gbe SFP+ label mean for actual throughput on this module?

The four SFP+ ports operate at 1 GbE or 10 GbE per port, so each fibre uplink can deliver up to 10 Gbps line rate when populated with compatible transceivers.

Which switch chassis does the J9987A module fit, and what speed does the backplane cap at?

It is designed for the 5400R zl2 switch chassis; the module connects through the zl2 backplane which supports the full 10 GbE per SFP+ port and 1 GbE per copper port.
