Universal Routing Platform

The Juniper MX304-BASE is a universal routing platform built for service providers, mobile operators, web-scale operators and multiple-service operators. It addresses cloud-era edge and metro Ethernet requirements with a focus on cost-effective deployment. The platform targets networks that need scalable, multi-service routing in a single chassis.

Scalable capacity for growing networks

The system is designed to support expanding network demands and can accommodate future upgrades as traffic increases. It handles high-performance routing across a broad range of protocols for versatile network management. The platform runs into limits when capacity requirements exceed the 24 and 304 scaling boundaries defined by the architecture.

High-speed interfaces and secure management

Multiple high-speed interface options enable fast, reliable data transfer across the infrastructure. Comprehensive security features protect network integrity against a variety of cyber threats. Day-to-day operations rely on Juniper's intuitive operating system for straightforward configuration, monitoring and maintenance.

Questions about this item

Will the MX304-BASE fit into a rack that already holds older Juniper MX series routers?

The MX304-BASE is a 24-slot universal routing platform designed for standard rack mounting, so it aligns with the same form factor used by earlier MX chassis.

How can I verify the MX304-BASE is routing traffic correctly after initial configuration?

Use the Junos OS CLI to run show route and show interfaces extensive; healthy BGP/OSPF adjacencies and incrementing packet counters confirm the 304 platform is forwarding as intended.

What ships with the MX304-BASE and which items must be ordered separately?

The base chassis includes the routing engine, power supplies and fan trays; line cards, transceivers and cables are sold separately.
