Product identity

The IBM 00Y2511 is a 1 TB internal hard drive built for the IBM Storwize V3700 Storage Array. It serves administrators who need reliable nearline capacity inside that specific platform.

Thermals noise power

The 7200 rpm spindle speed and 6Gb/s SAS interface define the drive’s thermal and acoustic profile in normal array operation. Power draw follows the standard pattern for a 2.5" nearline SAS unit under typical workloads.

Deciding specification

The drive is qualified only for the IBM Storwize V3700 Storage Array; it will not function in other servers or enclosures. Buyers who need a drive for a different platform must select another part.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive into an IBM Storwize V3700 and what step is often missed?

Slide the drive into an empty bay until the latch clicks, then verify the 6Gb/s SAS link is negotiated in the V3700 management GUI before adding it to an array.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1 TB 7200 rpm SAS drive need over its service life?

No scheduled maintenance is required; replace the drive only if SMART attributes report reallocated sectors or the V3700 flags a predictive failure.

What limit appears first when the 7200 rpm SAS drive sustains heavy random writes?

The 7200 rpm spindle speed caps sustained random write IOPS, so latency rises before the 6Gb/s SAS interface saturates.
