IBM 49Y1876Product 1 TB 3.5" 7200 rpm SAS switch module

SKU CH-B31B-EX81P MPN 49Y1876Product

A 1 TB internal hard drive with a 6 Gb/s SAS interface, 7200 rpm spindle speed and 3.5 inch form factor for IBM System Storage DS3000 Series

  • 1 TB capacity for near-line storage
  • 7200 rpm spindle speed for sustained throughput
  • 6Gb/s SAS interface for DS3000 compatibility
  • 5-inch internal form factor fits standard bays
  • New IBM drive with manufacturer part number 49Y1876

1 TB Near Line SAS Drive

This 1 TB 3.5-inch internal drive spins at 7200 rpm and uses a 6Gb/s SAS interface. It is built for the IBM System Storage DS3000 Series and carries the manufacturer part number 49Y1876.

Replacing slower near-line drives

The 6Gb/s SAS link and 7200 rpm spindle replace earlier 3Gb/s or lower-speed near-line units when throughput matters. The upgrade is worth it for DS3000 arrays that need higher sequential bandwidth for backup or archive workloads.

Standard 3.5-inch bay installation

The drive slides into a 3.5-inch hot-swap tray in the DS3000 enclosure and connects through the backplane SAS port. The most common issue is inserting the tray before the controller recognises the new drive, which can prevent the array from adding the capacity.

Questions about this item

Does the 3.5" form factor fit the IBM System Storage DS3000 Series drive bays?

Yes, the 3.5" internal form factor is designed for the IBM System Storage DS3000 Series drive bays.

How do I install the drive into the DS3000 enclosure and what step is often missed?

Slide the drive into an empty bay until the SAS connector seats firmly; the step often missed is not pushing far enough to engage the latch.

When should I expect to replace the 1 TB 7200 rpm Near Line SAS drive?

Replace the drive if SMART attributes report reallocated sectors, excessive seek errors, or if the array controller flags a predictive failure.
