IBM Ultrabay Slim CD/DVD Burner

This IBM Ultrabay Slim drive combines CD-RW and DVD-ROM functions in a single removable module. It fits ThinkPad bays that accept the Ultrabay Slim form factor and connects through an EIDE interface. The unit is suited for users who need to read DVDs and write CDs on compatible legacy laptops.

24X CD write and 8X DVD read

Maximum write speeds reach 24X for both CD-R and CD-RW media, while DVD read tops out at 8X. A 2 MB buffer helps sustain transfers during burning. The drive stores up to 700 MB per disc and supports DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R and DVD+RW for playback only.

160 ms access time and side tray loading

Average access time is 160 ms and the average transfer rate is 5000 KBps. The side-loading tray eases disc insertion in tight bay spaces. Removable design allows quick swapping with other Ultrabay devices without tools.

Questions about this item

Will this Ultrabay Slim drive fit in the same bay as my existing ThinkPad modular devices?

The drive uses the Ultrabay Slim form factor and EIDE interface, matching the mechanical slot and connector used by other ThinkPad Ultrabay Slim modules.

How can I verify the 24X CD write and 8X DVD read speeds are being reached after installation?

Burn a CD-R at the highest selectable speed in your recording software and check the reported write rate; play a commercial DVD and confirm the drive reports an 8X read rate in the drive properties.

Does the package include mounting hardware or a bezel, or must I reuse parts from my old drive?

The drive is supplied as a complete Ultrabay Slim module with its own side-loading tray and bezel; no additional brackets or faceplates are required for installation.
