What this drive is and who it fits

The Lite-On ihas524-T06 is a new 5.25-inch internal DVD burner with a black tray and SATA interface. It writes DVD±R at 24X, DVD±R DL at 12X, DVD-RAM at 12X and CD-R at 48X. A 1.5MB buffer helps keep streams steady. It suits anyone adding optical write capability to a desktop that still has a 5.25-inch bay.

Check your desktop before ordering

Confirm the chassis has a free 5.25-inch external bay and a spare SATA data port on the motherboard. A matching SATA power lead from the power supply is also required. The tray-load mechanism needs clear front-panel depth so the disc can eject fully. No driver install is needed for current Windows or Linux kernels.

How it fits into the build

The unit slides into the 5.25-inch bay and secures with standard M3 screws. One SATA data cable and one SATA power connector complete the hook-up. It frees the system from relying on external USB optical drives for disc authoring, software installs or legacy media access. The Label-tag feature lets you etch text or graphics onto compatible label-side surfaces.

Questions about this item

Does the ihas524-T06 include mounting screws or a SATA cable, or must they be purchased separately?

The drive ships as a bare 5.25" unit; mounting screws and a SATA data cable are not included and must be sourced separately.

Which write-speed combination on the ihas524-T06 best matches single-layer DVD recording?

Choose the 24X DVD+R or 24X DVD-R rating for the fastest single-layer DVD burns; both are supported at the same maximum speed.

What does the 24X DVD+R figure mean when the ihas524-T06 is installed in a PC?

It indicates a peak write rate of 24X for DVD+R media; actual throughput depends on disc quality, system load and the SATA bus.
