Twist-on wire connector joins copper conductors from 22 AWG to 14 AWG at up to 300 V with a polypropylene shell rated UL 94 V-2
The Ideal 30-072 twist-on wire connector joins solid or stranded copper conductors from 22 AWG up to 14 AWG. It is rated for 300 volts and carries UL, CSA and CE approvals. Electricians and maintenance technicians use it for residential lighting, receptacle wiring and low-voltage control circuits. The blue polypropylene shell provides V-2 flammability resistance and a maximum operating temperature of 221 degrees Fahrenheit.
Under continuous current the steel zinc-plated springs maintain consistent contact pressure across up to five conductors. The polypropylene insulation resists thermal softening at the rated 221 degrees Fahrenheit limit. The connector remains mechanically stable when the maximum combination of three 16 AWG wires is installed. No fill material is present, so heat dissipates directly through the plastic housing during prolonged operation.
Strip each conductor to the recommended length, align the ends and twist the connector clockwise until the wires are firm. The standard-style cap accepts a maximum of five conductors but overfilling beyond the 3-16 AWG limit reduces spring grip. Reusing a connector after removal can weaken the steel spring and compromise the connection. Ensure no bare copper extends past the skirt to avoid short circuits.

The 221 °F figure is the maximum operating temperature of the polypropylene insulation, not the heat the connector itself generates; it simply shows the material limit.
It accepts copper conductors from 22 AWG to 14 AWG, with a minimum of two 22 AWG wires and a maximum of three 16 AWG wires, up to five conductors total.
Yes, the 30-072 is rated for a maximum single wire size of 14 AWG, so it works with the solid copper you already have installed.
