A low-profile PCIe 3.0 x8 adapter adds two 40 Gbps QSFP+ ports for 10 or 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
The Intel XL710QDA2OCP is a low-profile PCI Express 3.0 x8 network card with two 40 Gigabit QSFP+ ports. It targets servers and workstations that need high-density 10 Gigabit or 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity in Open Compute Project environments. The adapter supports TCP/IP, UDP/IP, iSCSI, SMB and NFS transport protocols.
This card replaces a single-port 10 Gigabit adapter when aggregate throughput above 10 Gbps is required. The jump is worth it for storage clusters, virtualisation hosts or backbone links that saturate a single 10 GbE lane and can use both QSFP+ ports at 40 Gbps each. It does not suit builds limited to PCIe 2.0 slots or systems without QSFP+ cabling infrastructure.
Installation is a standard low-profile PCIe 3.0 x8 insertion; the bracket fits 1U and 2U chassis. The main friction point is sourcing compatible 40 Gbps QSFP+ transceivers or direct-attach cables, as the card ships without optics. Verify switch port negotiation for 10 GbE or 40 GbE modes before deployment.

The card uses a low-profile plug-in form factor and requires a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot for installation.
Insert the card fully until the bracket latch clicks, then attach each QSFP+ transceiver until its own latch engages — partial insertion is the common error.
The on-board components are not user-serviceable; only the QSFP+ transceivers and compatible fibre or copper cables are replaced as needed.
