Converts Gigabit RJ45 copper to SFP fibre up to 120 km and injects up to 30 W PoE+ power
The Intellinet 508216 Gigabit PoE+ Media Converter bridges a 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 port to an SFP slot while injecting up to 30 watts under IEEE 802.3at and 802.3af. It suits administrators who need to extend copper segments over fibre without adding separate injectors or power outlets for access points, VoIP phones or IP cameras.
Deploy this single unit when a copper run hits the 100 m (300 ft) limit and the linked device requires PoE+ power. The jump is worth it whenever running new electrical circuits is impractical or when consolidating two devices into one IP30 metal enclosure reduces rack space and failure points.
Under continuous traffic the converter passes jumbo frames up to 9 kBytes and maintains full-duplex or half-duplex autonegotiation across fibre spans up to 120 km (75 mi). Status LEDs report power and link activity on both ports while Link Fault Pass Through propagates faults instantly, keeping long-haul links stable during prolonged throughput.

The slim IP30 metal case fits on a desktop or shelf and can be wall-mounted; allow a few centimetres around the RJ45 and SFP ports for cable bend radius and for viewing the power and Link/TX status LEDs.
Connect the copper device to the RJ45 port within 100 m, insert a compatible SFP module for fibre up to 120 km, then power the unit; the step often missed is confirming the attached device supports IEEE 802.3at or 802.3af so it actually receives up to 30 watts.
The SFP module can be swapped if the fibre link changes or fails; Link Fault Pass Through alerts you to a break so you replace the patch cord or module, and the status LEDs should be checked periodically for power and Link/TX indication.
