Secure 8 TB portable SSD

The iStorage diskAshur2 is an external solid-state drive that stores up to 8 TB of data and protects it with a hardware-based AES 256-bit XTS encryption engine. A built-in keypad requires a 7-15 digit PIN before the drive becomes visible to the host, so no software installation is needed on any connected system.

USB 3.2 integration and rugged build

The drive connects through a USB 3.2 interface, delivering sequential reads up to 361 MB/s and writes up to 358 MB/s while remaining backward compatible with older USB ports. Its 2.5-inch chassis measures 3.31 by 4.88 by 0.79 inches, weighs .40 lb, and carries an IP56 rating for dust and splash resistance.

Suited for regulated data, not raw speed

Professionals who must meet GDPR, CCPA or HIPAA requirements will value the FIPS 197 validated algorithm, Common Criteria EAL5+ certified microprocessor and automatic lock-on-disconnect behaviour. Users who need the highest possible throughput or a smaller physical footprint should consider alternative storage types.

Questions about this item

How fast will the 8TB drive read and write when I push it continuously?

Sequential speeds reach up to 361 MBps read and 358 MBps write over USB 3.2; real-world sustained rates will depend on workload and host controller.

Does the epoxy keypad or encryption chip make the unit run hot or loud during all-day use?

No fan or moving parts are present; the hardware AES-256 engine and keypad draw minimal power, so heat and noise stay negligible during extended sessions.

What host port and cable do I need before this SSD works out of the box?

A standard USB-A or USB-C port with USB 3.2/3.1/3.0 support supplies both data and power; the integrated cable plugs directly in with no extra adapter required.
