  • 12 ft total extension covers longer runs in surveillance installs
  • Black jacket blends with typical security camera wiring

Purpose and fit

This 10-foot DC extension cable carries 5–24 V power to any device that uses a 5.5×2.1 mm barrel connector. It suits CCTV cameras, DVRs, LED strips, external drives and audio gear where the supply cannot reach the unit. Builders who need a different barrel size or a longer run will need another solution.

Deciding specification

The cable uses 20 AWG copper wire rated for up to 3 amps across the 5–24 V range. That single current limit decides whether the part matches the load; exceeding it risks voltage drop or heating.

Capacity and headroom

At the full 10-foot length the conductors handle typical camera or LED loads with margin to spare. Runs that demand more than 3 amps or extend beyond the supplied length will require a heavier gauge or a separate power plan.

Questions about this item

What does the 20 AWG copper wire mean for voltage drop over the 10 foot length?

The 20 AWG copper conductor keeps resistance low enough to support up to 3 amps across the 10 foot run while staying within the 5 to 24 volt range.

What does the 5.5 by 2.1 mm barrel connector cap in practice?

The 5.5 mm outer and 2.1 mm inner diameter matches the common centre-positive barrel jack found on most CCTV cameras, DVRs and LED strips, limiting use to devices with that exact plug size.

What clearance does the 10 foot cable need for routing and the barrel connectors for mating?

Allow a few centimetres behind the device for the straight male and female barrels to seat fully, and plan the 3 metre cable path to avoid sharp bends or pinch points.
