LaCie Rugged 5TB portable drive

The LaCie STFR5000800 is a 5TB portable hard drive built for creatives and mobile professionals who need durable external storage. Its orange ruggedised enclosure helps protect the drive from drops, dust and rain during transport. The drive connects through a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C interface and ships with both a Type-C and a Type-A cable for broad compatibility.

Check your host port and cable

Before ordering, confirm that your computer provides a USB Type-C or Type-A port capable of USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds. The included cables are USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C to Type-C and Type-C to Type-A; using an older USB 2.0 port will reduce transfer rates. No external power adapter is required because the drive draws power directly from the host connection.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

In typical operation the drive runs silently with only faint mechanical seek noise audible in quiet rooms. The aluminium enclosure acts as a heatsink, keeping surface temperatures warm but comfortable during sustained transfers. Power consumption stays within standard USB bus limits, so laptop battery impact is minimal during everyday backup or editing workflows.
