Legion 5 i9-14900HX RTX 5070 gaming laptop

The Legion 5 pairs an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU for high-frame-rate play and content creation. Twenty-four cores and thirty-two threads handle heavy multitasking while the 165Hz QHD+ panel keeps motion sharp. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 memory and a 2TB SSD provide fast load times for large project files. Buyers who need more than 16GB of system memory or a second graphics card should look elsewhere.

Thermals and power under load

The 15.1-inch chassis houses the i9-14900HX and RTX 5070 with a cooling solution designed for sustained turbo clocks up to 5.80GHz. Fan curves ramp with combined CPU and GPU load so surface temperatures stay manageable during extended sessions. Acoustic output rises at peak throughput but settles quickly when the workload drops. Power draw scales with the 24-zone RGB keyboard brightness and Wi-Fi 7 activity.

Ports and software extras

Three USB 3.0 Type-A ports, two USB Type-C ports, HDMI and an Ethernet jack cover peripherals and external displays without dongles. Windows 11 Home with Copilot+ PC features enables on-device AI assistance for productivity tasks. The 24-zone RGB backlit keyboard and numeric keypad are configurable through Lenovo Legion software. No media card reader or optical drive is included.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra DDR5 SODIMM memory in the Legion 5, and which step do people often miss?

Open the base cover, insert the module at an angle until the contacts disappear, then press down until both side clips click; the step most people miss is fully seating the module before locking the clips.

What maintenance or replacement will the 2 TB PCIe M.2 SSD need later?

The SSD itself has no moving parts, so only firmware updates via Lenovo Vantage are required; plan a capacity upgrade to the 4 TB limit when space runs low.

Which limit appears first during sustained loads on the i9-14900HX and RTX 5070?

The cooling system reaches its thermal ceiling first, causing the CPU to drop from its 5.8 GHz turbo toward the 2.2 GHz base clock while GPU clocks also scale back.
