Compact desktop with hexa-core i5-8500

This Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny desktop uses a 65 W Intel Core i5-8500 processor with six cores reaching 4.10 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout of 256 GB M.2 SSD plus 1 TB hard drive. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse are included.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 65 W processor rating defines the thermal envelope for continuous multi-threaded tasks. Intel UHD Graphics shares system memory and handles display output without a discrete GPU. The small form factor limits airflow, so extended heavy loads will reach thermal limits faster than larger towers.

Practical limits of the platform

Memory tops out at 32 GB DDR4 across two slots, so 16 GB today leaves room for one upgrade step. The M.2 slot and single 2.5-inch bay set the storage ceiling at two drives. Expansion relies on external USB ports because the tiny chassis has no internal PCIe slots.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 65 W i5-8500 draw when the M720q runs all day?

The i5-8500 is rated at 65 W; actual draw varies with workload but stays within that envelope under sustained load.

Does the M720q include a display or must I supply my own monitor?

No monitor is included; you will need a display with HDMI, DisplayPort or VGA input.

Can I keep using my existing DDR4 memory sticks alongside the 16 GB already installed?

The system uses DDR4 UDIMM slots and supports up to 32 GB total, so compatible DDR4 modules can be added.
