Compact Tiny Desktop with Hexa-Core i7

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q is a micro form-factor desktop built around an Intel Core i7-8700 processor with six cores and twelve threads. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 UDIMM memory and a 2.5-inch 512 GB SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse are included.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The 65 W hexa-core CPU reaches up to 4.60 GHz under turbo boost while the integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles everyday visual tasks. The tiny chassis limits thermal headroom so prolonged heavy workloads will throttle clock speeds to stay within the 65 W envelope. The 512 GB SSD keeps storage latency low during extended sessions.

Installation and Common Issues

The unit arrives ready to use; simply connect power, display and network. Memory upgrades use DDR4 UDIMM slots and storage can be expanded via the 2.5-inch bay or an M.2 slot. The optional Wi-Fi is supplied as a USB dongle rather than an internal card, so a free USB port is required for wireless connectivity.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the i7-8700 at 65 W produce during all-day use?

The processor is rated at 65 W, so sustained workloads will generate heat consistent with that power level inside the micro form-factor chassis.

Which display cable do I need to connect a monitor to this M720q?

The unit includes a USB keyboard and mouse but no monitor; you will need a display cable that matches the video outputs on the rear of this Tiny desktop.

Can my existing DDR4 UDIMM modules be added alongside the installed 16 GB?

The system uses DDR4 UDIMM memory and supports up to 32 GB total, so compatible DDR4 UDIMM sticks can be added to the current 16 GB configuration.
