Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny is a micro-form-factor desktop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor reaching 4.60 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory, a 256 GB M.2 SSD plus a 1 TB hard drive, DVD-ROM, USB keyboard and mouse, and Windows 10 Pro. The 24-inch full-HD IPS panel is integrated, so the system suits offices that need a complete workstation in a minimal footprint.

Thermals and acoustics

The 65 W processor runs inside a tiny chassis that relies on a compact internal cooler; under typical office loads the fan stays audible but not intrusive. Power draw remains modest for a six-core CPU, and the external power brick keeps heat outside the main unit. No liquid cooling or large heatsinks are present, so sustained heavy workloads will raise temperatures faster than in larger towers.

Build integration

The all-in-one design eliminates separate monitor cables and reduces desk clutter to a single power cord. Wireless connectivity comes via an included USB dongle supporting 5 GHz bands, while wired LAN, multiple USB ports and display outputs remain accessible on the rear. The micro case offers no internal drive bays or full-size expansion slots, so storage upgrades are limited to the M.2 slot and external drives. Buyers who want more storage or a discrete graphics card should consider a larger form factor.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra memory in the M720q Tiny and which slot mistake should I avoid?

Open the chassis, align the notch on the DDR4 UDIMM with the 240-pin DIMM slot and press firmly until the clips lock; the common error is inserting the module backwards so the notch misses the key.

Which storage drive will I likely replace first in the M720q Tiny?

The 1 TB hard drive has moving parts and typically wears out before the 256 GB M.2 SSD, so plan to swap the HDD when it becomes noisy or slow.

What thermal limit appears first during long heavy workloads on the i7-8700?

The 65 W processor hits its 4.60 GHz turbo ceiling and then throttles to stay within its power envelope, so sustained all-core speeds drop to the 3.20 GHz base.
