Compact business desktop for office workloads

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny packs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor running at 3.20 GHz with turbo up to 4.60 GHz into a micro form factor chassis. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 UDIMM memory, a 128 GB M.2 solid state drive for the operating system and a 1 TB hard drive for bulk storage. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse are included.

Dual-drive layout separates system speed

The 128 GB M.2 SSD holds Windows 10 Pro and applications for fast boot and launch times while the 1 TB hard drive provides room for large files and archives. A USB Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle adds wireless connectivity without using internal slots and a DVD-ROM drive handles legacy media. The 65 W processor keeps thermal output modest inside the tiny case.

Verify memory upgrade path

The board uses DDR4 UDIMM slots supporting up to 32 GB total so confirm how many slots are free if you plan to add RAM. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics drives the video outputs so check that your monitor matches the available ports. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance or more than two internal drives should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need upgrading and can it take 32 GB?

The board supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, so the installed 8 GB can be expanded later if workloads demand more capacity.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8700 runs at 4.60 GHz for long periods?

The 65 W processor will hit its turbo power ceiling before the tiny chassis can dissipate the heat, so sustained clocks drop to stay within the thermal envelope.

How loud and hot does the M720q get when it runs all day?

The small form factor forces the fan to spin faster under continuous load, producing noticeable airflow noise and warm exhaust, though the 65 W CPU keeps absolute temperatures moderate.
