Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s SFF is a small-form-factor desktop built around a 6-core 12-thread Intel Core i7-8700 processor that reaches 4.60 GHz with Turbo Boost. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 UDIMM memory and a 2.5-inch 256 GB solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, and a USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

65 W TDP processor with integrated Intel UHD

The i7-8700 runs at a base frequency of 3.20 GHz and carries a 65 W thermal design power, allowing the SFF chassis to manage heat without large coolers. Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles everyday video output and light graphical workloads without a discrete card. The compact case keeps fan noise low during typical office tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing.

USB Wi-Fi dongle and DVD-ROM expand connectivity

A USB wireless dongle provides 5 GHz-capable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without occupying an internal slot. The built-in DVD-ROM drive reads legacy media and software discs. Two USB peripherals are bundled, so the system is ready to deploy without extra accessory purchases. Buyers who need more than 256 GB of internal storage or a dedicated graphics card for 3D rendering should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

How do I install additional DDR4 memory in the ThinkCentre M720s, and which step is often missed?

Open the SFF case, locate the 240-pin DIMM slots, insert the DDR4 UDIMM modules until the retention clips click, then verify the new total in BIOS — the step most people skip is seating both clips fully.

What maintenance or replacement will the 256 GB SSD and optical drive need over time?

The 2.5-inch SSD has no moving parts but will eventually reach its write endurance limit; the DVD-ROM drive may require lens cleaning or full replacement if disc reading fails.

Which limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the i7-8700?

The 65 W processor will hit its thermal ceiling first, causing Intel Turbo Boost to drop from 4.60 GHz toward the 3.20 GHz base clock as the SFF cooler saturates.
