Compact business desktop

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s is a small-form-factor desktop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor running at up to 4.10 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout pairing a 512 GB M.2 SSD with a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, and a USB keyboard plus mouse are included for immediate office deployment.

Thermals and power in daily use

The 65 W processor and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 keep heat output modest inside the compact chassis, so fan noise stays low during typical productivity workloads. No discrete graphics card is fitted, which helps the system draw less power and run cooler when handling documents, web apps or video playback.

Build integration and expansion

The SFF case uses standard 240-pin DDR4 slots supporting up to 32 GB total memory, leaving two DIMM slots free for future upgrades. A USB wireless dongle provides 5 GHz-capable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without occupying an internal slot. An optical DVD-ROM drive is fitted, and the included peripherals connect via USB, so no legacy PS/2 ports are required. Buyers needing a discrete GPU or additional internal drive bays should verify chassis clearances before ordering.

Questions about this item

How do I add more DDR4 memory to the M720s and which slot mistake should I avoid?

The system uses 240-pin DDR4 UDIMM slots supporting up to 32 GB total; populate the primary slot first and do not mix DIMM speeds or capacities.

Which component in the M720s will need replacement first as it ages?

The mechanical 1 TB hard drive has moving parts and will wear out before the solid-state drive or memory modules.

What thermal limit appears first when the i5-8500 runs at 4.1 GHz for extended periods?

The 65 W processor power rating is the limiting factor; sustained turbo clocks will throttle once the cooling solution reaches its capacity.
