ThinkPad T440s business ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T440s is a 14.0" business ultrabook built for professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro machine. It pairs a dual-core Intel Core i5-4300U processor with 12 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1TB SATA hard drive. The carbon-fibre chassis includes a backlit keyboard, webcam and TPM 1.2 security chip for managed environments.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 1.9 GHz dual-core CPU and integrated graphics handle typical office applications and web-based tasks without thermal throttling during extended sessions. The HD+ LED panel at 1600 x 900 resolution provides adequate clarity for documents and spreadsheets. Mechanical hard drive speeds mean large file transfers and boot sequences take longer than solid-state alternatives.

Upgrade context and value

This unit replaces an older hard-drive laptop where extra memory and a larger 1TB drive remove the need for external storage. The jump is worth it for buyers who want more RAM and capacity in a durable carbon-fibre frame. It does not suit buyers who want solid-state responsiveness or a touchscreen display.

Questions about this item

How much heat and fan noise does the Core i5-4300U at 1.9 GHz produce during all-day use?

The 1.9 GHz dual-core processor is a low-power design intended for ultrabook chassis, so heat and fan noise stay modest under typical office workloads.

Which peripherals or cables must I already own to connect external displays to the Mini DisplayPort and VGA outputs?

You need a Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter for digital monitors and a standard VGA cable for legacy projectors; both ports are built into the chassis.

Will the 12 GB DDR3 memory and 1 TB SATA hard drive work reliably with older ThinkPad docking stations I may still have?

The memory and 2.5" SATA drive are internal components, so they remain compatible regardless of which legacy dock you use for external ports.
