Portable business laptop

The ThinkPad T450s is a 14.0 inch ultraportable designed for professionals and students who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro machine on the move. Its slim frame houses a dual-core Intel Core i5-5300U processor running at 2.3 GHz with 3 MB cache, 12 GB DDR3 memory and a 256 GB SATA SSD for responsive everyday performance.

Thermals and power in daily use

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 shares system memory and keeps heat output modest during office tasks, web browsing and video playback. The 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display and efficient Broadwell architecture help the cooling system run quietly, while the 45 W charger replenishes the battery during short breaks between meetings.

Build integration and expandability

Three USB 3.0 ports, a Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet and a 4-in-1 card reader cover most peripheral needs without extra dongles. The 802.11n wireless adapter handles standard office networks, and the integrated webcam supports video calls. Buyers who need discrete graphics, a touchscreen, higher-resolution panels or additional internal storage bays should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB SATA SSD in this T450s and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, unscrew the drive bracket, slide the SATA SSD into the connector, secure it with the bracket screw, then reinstall the cover; the step often missed is re-enabling the internal battery in BIOS after reassembly.

What maintenance will the 12GB DDR3 memory and the internal battery need over time?

The DDR3 memory requires no routine maintenance; the internal battery will eventually lose capacity and should be replaced when run-time drops below your needs.

At what point does the Intel HD 5500 graphics with shared memory become the bottleneck during sustained workloads?

Under sustained heavy graphical loads the shared system memory bandwidth and the 5500 integrated GPU thermal limits appear first, causing throttling before the CPU reaches its own ceiling.
