Enterprise ultrabook for mobile professionals

The ThinkPad T460s is a 14.0 inch ultrabook built around an Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.4 GHz with two cores and 3 MB cache. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB M.2 solid-state drive provide the baseline resources for office workloads and light multitasking. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed on the device.

Carbon-fibre chassis with essential I/O

A carbon-fibre-reinforced lid and magnesium body meet MIL-STD 810G durability targets for temperature, altitude, humidity and vibration. Connectivity covers three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260, HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outputs, an SD card reader and a SIM card slot. The integrated 720p webcam supports video calls without extra peripherals.

1 TB storage and integrated graphics headroom

The 1 TB M.2 SSD holds the operating system, applications and a large working set of documents without requiring external drives. Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory to drive the 1920 x 1080 LED panel and external displays up to 4K at 30 Hz. Demanding 3D rendering, heavy video editing or modern gaming titles will exceed the integrated graphics budget.

Questions about this item

How does the 14.0" 1920 x 1080 display and Intel HD Graphics 520 handle thermal limits during sustained use?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory and relies on the carbon-fibre-reinforced chassis and magnesium body to manage heat during extended workloads on the 14.0" Full HD panel.

What noise and heat levels should I expect from the i5-6300U and cooling system when running all day?

The dual-core Skylake processor and integrated graphics are cooled by the ultrabook chassis; fan noise increases under continuous load but the MIL-STD 810G tested design handles high temperatures and humidity.

Which peripherals and accounts do I need to start working with Windows 10 Home on this T460s?

The laptop includes the charger and battery; you only need your Microsoft account for Windows 10 Home setup and any external monitors via HDMI or Mini DisplayPort.
