Business ultraportable with 14" matte display

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a maximum turbo of 3.40 GHz. It ships with 12 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution on a non-touch matte surface, suited to mobile professionals who need a lightweight chassis for daily productivity.

Thunderbolt 3 and WWAN expand connectivity

A Thunderbolt 3 port provides up to 40 Gbps data transfer and video bandwidth over USB-C while supplying power to attached devices. Integrated 4G LTE WWAN adds mobile broadband without a separate dongle. Bluetooth 4.1 handles short-range peripherals. A match-on-chip fingerprint reader and a physical webcam cover (ThinkShutter) reinforce login security and privacy for travelling workers.

Soldered memory limits upgrades; WWAN needs a SIM

The 12 GB DDR4 configuration is soldered to the motherboard, so memory cannot be increased after purchase. Storage uses a single M.2 slot, allowing one SSD replacement if more capacity is required. WWAN functionality requires an active nano-SIM and carrier plan. The 21 MIL-SPEC tests confirm rugged construction, but the non-touch screen and Windows 7 Pro OS may not suit users wanting modern touch workflows or current OS support.

Questions about this item

What maintenance or replacement will the 12 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 12 GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-upgradable, so no routine memory maintenance is required.

Which limit appears first on the Core i5-8250U during sustained workloads?

The processor reaches its thermal ceiling before power limits, causing clock speeds to settle below the 3.40 GHz maximum turbo.

How much fan noise and heat should I expect when the 14" FHD laptop runs all day?

Under continuous load the dual-fan cooling keeps surface temperatures moderate while fan noise stays at a low office-friendly level.
