Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0" business laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance on the move. It ships new with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and a matte IPS display at 1920 x 1080 resolution. The Intel Core i5-8250U processor runs at a base 1.60 GHz and reaches up to 3.40 GHz for demanding workloads.

Thunderbolt 3 expands connectivity

A single Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, allowing connection to high-speed storage, external graphics or dual 4K displays while charging the system. Four USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 handle legacy peripherals and wireless accessories without extra adapters. The integrated fingerprint reader and ThinkShutter webcam cover provide hardware-level security for sensitive environments.

12 GB DDR4 and 500 GB SSD for everyday workloads

The 12 GB DDR4 memory keeps multiple business applications and browser tabs responsive during typical office tasks. The 500 GB SSD offers fast boot times and enough space for the operating system, core programs and active project files. Users working with large media libraries or virtual machines will need external storage to supplement the internal capacity.

Questions about this item

How long can the i5-8250U sustain its 3.4 GHz turbo before thermal limits cut in?

The quad-core i5-8250U runs at 1.6 GHz base and can boost to 3.4 GHz, but the ultra-slim chassis and 2.9 lb weight mean thermals will throttle sustained loads after a few minutes.

What fan noise and surface temperatures should I expect when the laptop runs flat-out all day?

Under continuous load the single fan becomes audible and the keyboard deck and underside grow warm; the compact 14" design limits cooling headroom compared with thicker workstations.

Which dock or port replicator do I need to drive two external monitors from the single Thunderbolt 3 port?

A Thunderbolt 3 dock with dual DisplayPort or HDMI outputs is required; the laptop has only one Thunderbolt 3/USB-C video lane, so a compatible dock splits that bandwidth for two screens.
