What this laptop is and who it suits

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6 is a 14 inch mainstream laptop running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor with a maximum turbo frequency of 4.0 GHz. The system includes 8GB of LPDDR3 memory and a 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD. A 1920 x 1080 IPS display, fingerprint reader and 720p webcam complete the core feature set. It weighs between 2 and 2.9 lbs.

Practical limits of Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C

The laptop provides Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C at up to 40 Gbps, delivering four times the data bandwidth and twice the video bandwidth of earlier USB-C implementations. Bluetooth 4.1 handles short-range peripherals. The platform supports USB-C charging so the same port can power the device. Four USB ports in total are available for accessories.

Installation notes and common issues

As a sealed ultraportable the memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded after purchase. The 256GB NVMe drive is the only internal storage bay; buyers who want more storage must rely on external drives. The carbon-fiber chassis passes 12 military-grade tests and over 200 quality checks for durability. The discrete TPM and ThinkShutter camera cover provide hardware-level security features.
