Business ultraportable with large NVMe storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6 is a 14-inch Windows 11 Pro laptop built for professionals who need a lightweight chassis and a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor with 8GB of LPDDR3 memory. The 1920 x 1080 IPS display is non-touch and the system includes a fingerprint reader and webcam.

Silent operation and efficient power use

The carbon-fibre and magnesium construction meets 12 military-grade requirements and passes more than 200 quality checks for durability in extreme conditions. Passive thermal design keeps noise to a minimum during typical office workloads. The low-power U-series processor and LPDDR3 memory help extend battery runtime between charges. USB Type-C charging adds convenience with compatible adapters.

Soldered 8GB memory limits upgrade options

System memory is not expandable beyond the factory 8GB, so buyers who need more RAM for virtual machines or large datasets should consider a different model. The 2TB NVMe drive provides ample high-speed storage for local files and applications. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers up to 40 Gbps bandwidth for external GPUs, docks or high-resolution displays.

Questions about this item

How is the 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD installed, and which step do people often miss?

The 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD is factory-installed and requires no user installation. If adding a second drive later, the missed step is enabling the NVMe slot in BIOS before the drive appears in Windows.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8GB LPDDR3 memory need later?

The 8GB LPDDR3 memory is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded or replaced. No user maintenance is required, but capacity is fixed for the life of the laptop.

At what point does the Intel Core i7-8550U hit its limit under sustained loads?

The Intel Core i7-8550U reaches its thermal limit first during sustained workloads, throttling from 4.0 GHz to lower speeds to manage heat within the ultralight chassis.
