ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen is a 14.0" mainstream laptop running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor with a maximum turbo frequency of 4.0 GHz, 8GB of LPDDR3 memory and a 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD. Integrated 4G LTE WWAN provides mobile broadband connectivity.

Carbon-fibre chassis tested to 12 military-grade

The chassis combines four layers of reinforced carbon fibre with a magnesium alloy roll-cage and passes more than 200 quality checks. At 2 to 2.9 lbs it is designed for frequent transport. USB Type-C charging uses the Thunderbolt 3 ports, so the same connector handles power, data up to 40 Gbps and video. The fingerprint reader and ThinkShutter camera cover add physical security without software setup.

Verify RAM and storage needs before ordering

Memory is soldered LPDDR3 and cannot be upgraded after purchase, so confirm that 8GB suits your workload. The 256GB NVMe drive is replaceable but requires a compatible M.2 PCIe module. Check that your SIM carrier supports the LTE bands used by the WWAN module. Four USB ports include two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C and two Type-A sockets for legacy peripherals.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-8550U is reaching its 4.0 GHz turbo after setup?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose CPU and watch the clock speed climb to 4.0 GHz while running a heavy single-thread load.

What ships in the box and what must I source separately for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6?

The laptop, its USB-C power adapter and documentation are included; no external dock, Ethernet dongle or SIM card for the 4G LTE WWAN are supplied.

Which configuration should I pick if I need the 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD and 8GB LPDDR3 memory?

This single SKU already pairs the 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD with 8GB LPDDR3, so no alternative capacity or memory option exists to choose from.
