Product Identity

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable machine with a touchscreen. It runs Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid-state drive. The carbon-fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC testing target users who move their device frequently.

Bundled Experience

Windows 8.1 Pro is pre-installed, providing a familiar desktop environment with touch optimisation for the 1366 x 768 IPS panel. The fingerprint reader adds hardware-based sign-in security without extra software setup. Bluetooth 4.0 connects peripherals wirelessly, while the backlit keyboard and spill-resistant design extend usability into low-light or hazardous environments.

Capacity and Limits

The 500GB SSD offers enough space for the operating system, core business applications and a working set of documents. The 8GB DDR3 memory handles typical office multitasking and browser workloads smoothly. Demanding creative suites, large local databases or modern gaming titles will exceed the available storage headroom and integrated graphics capability.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB DDR3 memory need to be upgraded later?

The 8GB DDR3 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; only the 500GB SSD can be replaced.

What limits the Core i7-4600U during long workloads?

The 15W TDP and compact 12.5" chassis cause thermal throttling once the 3.3 GHz boost cannot be sustained.

How loud and hot does the X240 get when running all day?

The fan spins up noticeably under load and the carbon-fibre roll cage area becomes warm to the touch after extended use.
