Slimline SATA DVD Burner

The Lite-On DS-8ACSH-01 is a 12.7mm height SATA DVD burner designed for notebook computers and compact systems. It reads all CD and DVD media formats and writes to write-once and rewritable discs. Intelligent features such as SMART-BURN and SMART-X optimise burning quality and reading speed. The drive includes a 500KB buffer and supports vertical mounting.

Suits notebook upgrades and external enclosures

This unit fits laptops or small-form-factor PCs that accept a 12.7mm SATA optical drive. It also works in an external enclosure when a portable optical drive is required. Buyers needing Blu-ray read or write capability should look elsewhere. Systems without a SATA connection or a 12.7mm drive bay cannot use this model.

8X DVD and 24X CD performance

Maximum write speeds reach 8X for DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-R, 6X for DVD-RW and dual-layer DVD media, and 24X for CD-R and CD-RW. Read speeds top out at 8X DVD-ROM and 24X CD-ROM with access times of 350ms and 330ms respectively. The drive handles standard DVD±R DL discs at 6X but offers no support for higher-capacity or Blu-ray formats.

Questions about this item

Does this 12.7mm SATA DVD burner need a separate SATA data cable and power connection inside my laptop?

The drive uses a standard SATA interface and draws power through the laptop's internal SATA power connector; no extra cables are required for an internal notebook installation.

Will the tray-load mechanism and 350 ms DVD access time work reliably with my older DVD±R discs recorded at lower speeds?

Yes, the burner reads DVD-ROM at 8X and writes DVD±R at 8X, so it handles legacy media at their rated speeds without issue.

How can I verify that SMART-BURN and SMART-X are active after I install the drive?

Burning software will show real-time write-speed adjustments and OPC calibration during a burn, confirming the intelligent features are operating.
