What this converter does

The LUOM adapter changes a digital HDMI signal into analogue composite video and stereo audio through a single 120 cm cable with an integrated conversion chip. It accepts HDMI 1.3 input from 480i up to 1080p and outputs standard-definition 480i or 576i CVBS to a yellow RCA jack plus red and white audio jacks.

Who it suits and who it does not

It suits owners of legacy TVs, VCRs, DVD recorders or projectors that only have RCA inputs and want to connect modern sources such as streaming sticks, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players or game consoles. Buyers who need high-definition output, 3D video pass-through or a purely passive cable without external power should look elsewhere.

Behaviour under sustained use

The built-in chipset requires a 5 V 1 A USB power supply to operate continuously; without it the conversion stops. When powered, the converter maintains stable NTSC or PAL output during long playback sessions, and the fixed 120 cm length keeps the signal path short enough to avoid degradation.

Questions about this item

Do I need a separate USB power adapter to run the LUOM HDMI to RCA converter?

Yes, the converter requires a 5V/1A USB power supply connected to its USB power port to operate.

Will my 1080p HDMI source work correctly when downscaled to the composite 480i or 576i output?

The built-in chipset accepts HDMI input up to 1080p and converts it to standard-definition composite video at 480i or 576i for older displays.

How can I verify the converter is functioning properly after connecting everything?

Check that the source device outputs video at 720p or 1080p, ensure the USB power is connected, and confirm the display shows a stable picture with synchronised audio on the RCA inputs.
