LUOM M.2 SATA USB-C Adapter

This transparent enclosure converts a B-key M.2 SATA SSD into a portable USB 3.1 Gen 1 drive. It accepts 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors up to 2 TB and operates with Windows, Linux and macOS. Tool-free assembly takes under three minutes.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Builders with a spare M.2 SATA module who want quick external access will appreciate the plug-and-play simplicity and the included Type-C and Type-A cables. Buyers holding an NVMe PCIe M-key or M+B-key drive cannot use this adapter because it only supports the SATA protocol.

Deciding specification — SATA-only controller

The JMS580 bridge limits the enclosure to M.2 SATA SSDs and caps throughput at 5 Gbps. If your drive uses the NVMe protocol, this unit will not recognise it, so verify the key type before purchase.

Questions about this item

Which M.2 SSD sizes and key types work with this LUOM adapter?

It accepts B-Key SATA SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths up to 2 TB; M-Key NVMe drives are not supported.

Will the included Type-C and Type-A cables work with my older USB 3.0 ports?

Yes, both cables are backward-compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, though transfer speeds will fall back to the port's maximum.

How can I verify the adapter is running at its full 5 Gbps after setup?

In the OS device manager or lsusb output the controller should enumerate as a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) device; a quick file copy to a SATA SSD will then show speeds consistent with that link.
