Product Purpose

The Mediasonic MOSWAG HDMI Audio Extractor separates audio from an HDMI signal while passing 4K video at 60 Hz through without compression or latency. It provides optical and 3.5 mm analogue outputs for connecting to amplifiers, Hi-Fi speakers or conference-room sound systems.

Who It Suits

Gamers and home-theatre owners who need to route sound from a PS5, Switch, Blu-ray player or set-top box to legacy audio gear will find this extractor useful. Office users linking a projector to a room speaker system also benefit. It does not support ARC, so buyers who require ARC audio return should look at a different solution.

Build Integration

The unit accepts a standard HDMI source and outputs video via HDMI pass-through while sending audio to optical or 3.5 mm ports. Power is drawn from a USB 2.0 connection, freeing the builder from an extra mains adapter. Its compact ABS chassis fits easily behind a display or inside an equipment rack.

Questions about this item

What HDMI source device do I need to connect for the extractor to pass 4K video at 60 Hz?

Any HDMI source that outputs 4K at 60 Hz — such as a PS5, Switch, Blu-ray player, set-top box, Windows PC, Mac, smart TV or projector — will pass video through the extractor without compression or latency.

If I keep my older amplifier that only has an optical input, will the extractor send it a compatible signal?

Yes, the extractor decodes HDMI audio and outputs it through the optical port so a legacy amplifier with only optical input receives a stereo signal.

After wiring everything, how can I confirm the extractor is passing both video and audio correctly?

Verify the display shows a 4K 60 Hz image with no lag and listen for stereo sound from the speakers connected to either the optical or 3.5 mm output.
