7 ft Cat5e patch cable for wired networking

This 7 ft Cat5e patch cable provides a wired Ethernet connection for routers, switches and networked devices. It uses 24 AWG stranded pure bare copper conductors with unshielded twisted pairs and 50 µm gold-plated RJ45 contacts. The red jacket and snagless strain-relief boots make it easy to identify and route in busy racks.

Practical limits of the Cat5e standard

Cat5e is rated for 350 MHz bandwidth and supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 100 metres. The unshielded twisted-pair construction meets UL 444 and TIA-568-C fire-safety requirements for communications cable. Performance beyond the rated frequency or distance is not guaranteed by the specification.

Check your existing setup before ordering

Verify that your devices have standard RJ45 ports and that a 7 ft length reaches between them without tension. Confirm the installation environment does not require shielded or plenum-rated cable, which this product is not. Ensure the red colour matches your cable-management scheme if colour coding is used.

Questions about this item

Which length should I pick for a short desk run?

The cable is 2.1336 metres (7 ft) long, suited for nearby devices on a desk or shelf.

What does the 350 MHz bandwidth mean for my connection?

It provides headroom above the Cat5e 100 MHz requirement, supporting reliable Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 metres.

How does the RJ45 interface limit the maximum speed?

The RJ45 connector carries up to 1 Gbps on Cat5e; higher speeds need Cat6 or better cabling.
